PROJECT OF THE MONTH:
Voices From Africa
The Oakland Institute
The Oakland Institute recently published an important new report printed at Inkworks titled Voices from Africa: African Farmers & Environmentalists Speak Out Against a New Green Revolution in Africa. This timely collection of essays and analysis issues a direct challenge to Western-led plans for a genetically engineered revolution in African agriculture, particularly the recent misguided philanthropic efforts of the Gates Foundation's Alliance for a New Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), and presents African resistance and solutions rooted in first-hand knowledge of what Africans need. ARTISTS OF THE MONTH:
Melanie Cervantes
& Jesus Barraza
Dignidad Rebelde
Political poster artists Melanie Cervantes and Jesus Barraza recently used Inkworks' short run color printing capabilities to reproduce some of their inspiring silk screened prints that deal with issues of social justice and resistance. Together, these activist-artists have created the project Dignidad Rebelde as a space for collaboration and artistic skill-sharing. The project is grounded in a Xicana worldview and is fueled by a collective desire to support grassroots organizing and social justice. MORE
FROM THE ARCHIVES:
Celebrating May Day
International Workers Day
Inkworks' favorite holiday of the year is fast approaching. May 1 is International Workers Day, and Inkworks closes on this day each year to celebrate the labor movement, solidarity with workers around the world, and social justice. In recent years, immigrant rights' groups across the country have given this date a new importance by mobilizing hundreds of thousands of people in marches demanding a just immigration policy and an end to ICE raids and attacks on immigrant communities. FOCUS ON INKWORKS:
The Union Bug
A Mark of Quality and Solidarity
Inkworks Press is a union shop as well as a worker collective. We utilize our union contract as a framework for fair and safe working conditions and our collective structure means that the shop is democratically run and collectively managed. Unlike other union print shops where only a handful of press operators are unionized, every worker at Inkworks is unionized under the same contract. Every time you print with Inkworks you are showing your support for the labor movement and workplace democracy. MORE
